Comparing Amazon Fire HD 8 With Apple iPad Mini 2

Amazon had just recently launched its Fire HD 8 tablet which promises the delivery of excellent performance on a 9.0 inch screen. The Amazon Fire HD 8 is now available for pre order at the price of $150 which is approximately N30.000. A very similar device to the Amazon Fire HD 8 is Apple's iPad mini 2. The IPad mini 2 from Apple starts at $269 for 16GB Storage and $319 for the 32GB storage. However it comes with just 7.9 inch screen.

The price difference between the Amazon Fire HD 8 (with a wide 9.0 inch) and Apple iPad mini 2 (with 7.9 inch screen) will obviously throw many into confusion on the one to buy. So let's compare the two devices using the following parameters.

The Price

The Amazon Fire HD 8 costs $150 while the Apple iPad mini 2 costs between $269-$319.

Storage

The Fire HD 8 has only 8GB of local storage; that's half of the already small 16GB that the iPad mini 2 starts out with, though Amazon's slate has a microSD port for adding space.

Operating Systems

The Amazon Fire HD 8 runs Fire OS 5 "Bellini," the company's version of Android 5.0 Lollipop with a revamped interface that puts Amazon services at its center. The Apple iPad mini 2 ships with iOS 9, which brings new multitasking features, and aggregated News app and public transit directions to Apple's mobile operating system, among other new features.

Battery Life

On our battery test, the iPad mini 2 lasted 11 hours and 6 minutes, which is 28 percent longer than the 8 hours Amazon claims its Fire HD 8 will last.
